Root Canal Therapy
If the pulp (nerve) of a tooth degenerates and the patient wishes to save the tooth, we can perform root canal treatment. This involves cleaning the inside of the tooth where the nerve was formerly positioned, making it as close to sterile as possible, and then placing a filling on the inside to take the place of the nerve. Patients can be reluctant to have root canal treatment because they have “heard it is painful”. The overwhelming majority of the time, the sensation of having root canal treatment is no more painful than that of having a large filling placed.
