Denture Care Tips
Many patients who wear dentures are somewhat uncertain as to how they should maintain them. While there may be some differences between full and partial denture care the basics apply to both:
Take your dentures out at night. Everything needs a break! Your mouth is no different. Every denture is a foreign body to the mouth, therefore sleeping without dentures in position will aid mouth hygiene and greatly reduce the risk of tooth decay in partial denture wearers.
Clean your denture(s) with a soft bristle brush and consider soaking them in an enzymatic cleaner (Such as Polident denture cleanser) overnight. For those prone to developing calculus on their denture(s) consider soaking the denture(s) in one part white vinegar to one part water. This mildly acidic solution will aid in your ability to remove calculus from the denture.
Partial denture wearers are encouraged to remove their dentures after every meal to clean both their natural dentition and denture. Of course, regular dental examinations are also important to monitor your dentures and hygiene routine.
