Dental Implant

Dental Implant

When considering the alternatives to replacing a lost natural tooth, by far the most aesthetic and functional option is a dental implant. Dental implants are positioned where the root of the former tooth was located. They are literally fused to the bone and support a porcelain crown which can either be cemented or screwed into the implant depending on the case.

There are usually two phases to the treatment plan. Firstly, the implant is placed and allowed to fuse with bone a process referred to as osseointegration. Once this has occurred, the porcelain crown is constructed, being fully customised to the implant and the neighbouring teeth.

Dental implants are a viable option for most teeth that have been lost, although there may be some exceptions. The quality and quantity of the bone available is very important, together with certain anatomical structures that may limit what can be done. We are always happy to evaluate patients who are considering a quality alternative to replacing missing teeth.
